For this model year comparison we will be starting with the 1995 model year and working up through the 2007 model year documenting the trims and packages available for each year and what year the major changes were made in.
Toyota MR2 and MR2 Turbo
For 2005 the MR2 came with a 4-Cyl 2.2 liter engine or the 2.0 liter 4 cyl turbo. Both were 2 door coups with 1 94.5 wheel base and in the US a 5 speed transmission.
Toyota MR2 Spyder
The MR2 was not offered in 1996, 1997, 1998, or 1999. The MR2 came back in 2000 with the MR2 Spyder a 2 door convertible with a 1.8 liter 4-cyl engine and a slightly longer wheel base of 96.5. This configuration remained the same through the end of its production.
While there were only the three trims available in the US, the MR2, MR2 Turbo and later the MR Spyder, there were three different ones available in Europe, the coupe, GT coupe and GT T-Bar. In Japan four different trims were offered the MR2 G, MR2 G-Limited, MR2 GT-s and MR2 GT.
At the same time Toyota offered the new MR2 Spyder in the US it started to offer the MR-S in Japan and the MR@ Roadster in Europe. While the various version of the MR were were continuing to be sold in Japan, Mexico and Europe until 2007 it ceased to be offered in the US in 2005.
